What is Tallow-Based Soap?
Soaps made from beef fat, called tallow soaps, are a more traditional way of producing soaps than many modern synthetic detergents and surfactants. Tallow soap is made during saponification, the chemical reaction of fats and oils mixed with an alkali substance, such as sodium hydroxide, also referred to as lye.
Tallow soap, made with very few ingredients, provides numerous benefits for the skin. Soap made from tallow is typically hypoallergenic, produces a rich, luxurious foam lather, and is known to wear down slower than other soaps, extending its usability.
Common Uses of Tallowate Soap Powder
Tallow soap in powder form is used to make many common natural baths, home goods, and skincare products. Common tallow soap powder uses are to make skincare, cosmetics, oil recovery, textiles, laundry soap, industrial lubricants, and more.
Skin Care and Cosmetics
Tallow soap power makes cosmetics like lip balms, lipsticks, and skin care products like soaps and cleansing bars. The animal fats help produce a more moisturizer-rich product. They can be mixed with desirable high-quality ingredients and raw materials, such as shea butter, aloe, olive oil, flower extracts, and more.
Oil Recovery
Tallow is a byproduct that would otherwise be discarded and wasted. However, instead of being thrown away, it can be used to create high-quality soaps. Therefore, using tallow for soaps is a more sustainable option, minimizing waste.
Textiles and Laundry
Tallow soap is also fantastic for making, natural cleaning products such as laundry soaps. Tallow soap is suitable for creating a more hypoallergenic laundry detergent while being just as efficient as other plant-based liquid laundry detergents.
Industrial Lubricant
Sodium tallowate soap flakes and tallow-based powdered soap are used in many typical industrial and commercial applications, such as lubricating heavy machinery. For instance, VALPRO®92, or sodium tallowate soap flakes, has excellent film forming, binding, and release characteristics.
Additional Applications
Besides its use in cosmetics, laundry detergent, and industrial applications such as lubricants and oil recovery, tallow-based soap is also commonly used in hand soaps due to its natural moisturizing properties.
